West Ham United v Rubin Kazan
Pre-season match
Wednesday 20 July 2016 6pm CEST (5pm BST)

Team news
The Hammers are set to mix and match their team again on Wednesday after giving a group of players 45 minutes, some 65 to 70 and Sam Byram and Reece Burke both 90 on Tuesday.

Havard Nortveit and Aaron Cresswell are both set to feature after sitting out the Slovacko tie, while Adrian could return between the posts after Darren Randolph played his first game of pre-season against Slovacko.

After combining for the Hammers’ second goal, young duo Domingos Quina and Ashley Fletcher will again be keen to make their mark.

We had the same knee jerk reactions last year in the pre season, by the same people who are getting up in arms again this year.

It's only mid july FFS.

Yep. The defense looked inept yesterday but would have been very different with any two out of Reid, Ogbonna and Collins. A proper striker might have helped too.

Tough side, who did okay in the Europa League last year, further along us. For good or bad these teams we play care a lot more about these games than we do.

I like Feghouli, if he had a striker in there would have a few more assists. Tore looked a bit behind.

On that subject feel for Valencia, we have seen better from him but it is everything is gone now.

We'll see how the defence does when we have the first choice three centre backs playing.

Quina looks good.

Since when did anyone really give a shit about results in pre-season?

Rubin Kazan are about 3 to 4 weeks ahead of us in terms of their fitness levels and it showed. They're a good outfit too so the result wasn't a shock. It is clear though that the back 4 need to gel and some work has to be done here.

We most definitely need a striker (but we all know this) and we need a stable right back, Antonio is a beast but he's not a right back and I don't think he ever will be....

All in all, yes it was a disappointment losing but please can we stop the knicker wetting....

player wants 48 hours to think = he might sign. club tell him answer right now = he wont sign. not sure what the issue is? in 48 hours we might have a very good striker on our books. today we have none.

He needs time for these new players to gel with the squad, to work with them on tactics etc.

Instead of players giving us deadlines on decisions we should be giving them the deadlines

Friendly results do not mean much if previous seasons are a guide. 1985/86 the most obvious where we were shocking in pre-season. Even recent seasons we have been average and last season too.

Anyone at the game ? Bilic's body language might be an indication. If he looked relaxed and content should be fine. If on the other hand he looked pissed off we might need to be a tad concerned. Many players not available, trying new combinations and systems, younger players getting a chance etc... I am Mr Pessimistic but not worried about these friendlies.

I would like us to get our strikers in by end of next week though.

I agree with that 100%

Re: West Ham United v Rubin Kazan
You learn more from losing friendlies than winning. I would have thought these games are about the boss learning specific things for the upcoming season.

I remember seeing arsenal win all there per-season games comfortably and the get spanked 8-2 by the mancs. It really means nothing.

I think you misconstrued what I meant

I have no issues with freebies, just pointing out that before the close season started we were being told of a larger better squad for a manager who performed miracles last season.

I'd imagine that would involve spending some money on players, good players.

I'm very happy with Tore, Feghouli and Nordveidt,

I believe at times last season our squad looked very stretched as it is a small one compared to others in the top 7, so in terms of numbers we have replaced most that have left.....only time will tell if we have increased the quality

Up front is a major worry for me, Carroll is 5 mins away from an injury every game, Sakho is off soon and we are holding on to Valencia ( hardly prolific ) until we get another in

Re: West Ham United v Rubin Kazan
We have lost a lot of players who weren't playing ... Song, Moses, Emenike .... and we've sold Tomkins (who wasn't starting) and brought back Burke to replace him.
The new ones coming in like Feghouli and Fletcher look useful and Bilic obviously rates Tore and Nordviedt.
Bilic is obviously also deciding whether the likes of Cullen, Samuelsen, Oxford etc can be squad players.
We need some more players and the striker hunt has been frustrating but we aren't done yet.
Suspect we will pick up Callieri and Bacca (or alternative like Benteke) plus a back up left back (the Walsall kid?) while moving out Sahko and Valencia.
Am hoping there is still room for a couple of surprises as we will have spent relatively little.

Antonio has played very well at RB in the competitive games he has been selected there.
